There are several people in our society that have undergone a difficult time in their period which has resulted in the use of illegal substances. In today’s society there are people who would say that the use of marijuana is a result of bad parenting, while others claim that it is due to their surroundings. Regardless of one’s point of view, the use of marijuana has been going on for some time now and is not only a problem in our generation but back during the 1900’s to 1950’s as well. During the 1900’s there were a lot of things going on and some people were doing what was in, Marijuana. According to our text book, Drug Use and Abuse, Marijuana was often used by Mexican laborers in the Southwest and jazz groups for recreational use (Weisheit, 1990). During this generation people were pretty laid back when it came to marijuana use. Marijuana has been around for quite some time now and has slowly begun to increase in usage. According to our text book , Drug Use and Abuse, Marijuana was originally cultivated for their fiber and not their drug content (Peterson, 1980). Originally the use of marijuana was seen as no threat and was often shrugged off because of this. But this would soon come to a change and efforts to bring forth a change would be made.
